Michael Coren
Mike Coren is frequently involved in cases involving large numbers of injured parties or large numbers of potentially responsible parties, often with complex, lengthy and involved underlying circumstances. Many of the matters he has handled since entering practice in 1979 have been ground breaking or leading edge cases in the areas of consumer abuse, environmental injury and employee workplace safety. He has earned acclaim from both courts and other attorneys for his innovative and high caliber investigative, trial and appellate work in national and other large scale level class actions and mass injury cases. He is a frequent invited lecturer on mass tort, pharmaceutical/medical device, electronic discovery, food-borne illness and case management technique topics.
Mike has been appointed co-lead or class counsel in environmental, pharmaceutical/medical device, consumer, product liability, RICO, securities and shareholder matters in several jurisdictions. Drawing on his case management and computer skills, in addition to his knowledge in a number of diverse legal areas --environmental law, products liability, international products liability law, consumer fraud, unfair competition, commercial law, food product adulteration and misbranding, food-borne illness, class actions and electronic discovery -- he is often asked to participate in litigation steering committees organized by lawyer groups or appointed by Courts in mass tort and class action cases. In recent years, he has participated in international cases with firms in Canada and the European Union. His practice also now includes representing food supply businesses involved in startup, crisis and transition situations.
Mike's current academic interests include aggregate litigation, food and pharmaceutical supply integrity and traceability (provenance) issues, alternative business and philanthropic organizations (cooperatives; L3Cs) and crisis and mass disaster planning and management issues.
Mike is married to Jan Myra Olsen, with whom he has three children: Elisa Dawn Coren, Samantha Faye Coren, and Franklin Daniel Coren.
